239478 2004-05-26 09:03:00 New fault. Everything has been working fine. Only recent change is gone broadband but don't see how that could have caused this problem.
CD Drive works ok on audio CD's and commercial CD's. Now put in PC world Plus CD computer slows down. Doing something in background and mostly stays locked. 3 or 4 minutes later stops. Computer no longer recognizes CD Drive. Reset and CD drive loads back.
Running XP.
Tried accessing CD through Internet Explorer same thing happens.
Tried stopping automatic loadup of CD and then view from properties on CD drive and again same thing happens.
Tried checking with device manager which reports no problem with drive.
My only thought is that it is something to do with IE but why do I lose my drive and what can i do to put it right.

239479 2004-05-26 10:12:00 I had a similar problem, but not to the same extent when my CD had the glue all over the back. I cleaned it all off and it went fine after that. mejobloggs (264)

239481 2004-05-27 12:41:00 I have had that with recent PC World discs, the latest one seems ok for me. Haven't bothered following up with PC World in the past, but you will find an email address to contact in the magazine if your disc is faulty.

BB or Robo - are ya using your own cd writers to produce the disc these days???? ;)

239482 2004-05-27 21:46:00 Guys, if you're having problems with disks we absolutely need to know. If no one tells us, then we aren't aware of any potential problems with the print run.

If you've got a disk that won't work, send it in to me (I'll send you back a replacement) so I can check it out here. To date, we haven't found any problems when folks have sent them back, which tends to point to drive-specific issues.

The upcoming disk (June) has been done at a new replication house, BTW, so I'll be very interested to see if any of you who've had problems lately still have them. Shoot me emails.

Why does this not surprise me?

:O :D

239484 2004-05-28 08:10:00 There is probably a problem with the CD itself. I used to have the same trouble with PCPro CD's but PCWorld ones have been good. mikebartnz (21)
