2004-05-28 08:21:00 | ephesus, take no notice of the wisecracks regarding your use of the acronym CPU, it is a common error that a lot of people make. To the geeks here however there is a huge difference between a computer and a CPU so it is worth knowing the difference. ;-) CPU is an acronym for Central Processing Unit, which is the "brain" of the computer. It sits on the motherboard and tells everything else in the computer what to do. A computer is the complete box of bits that do all the wonderful things we want it to do. Plus all the not so wonderful things that we would rather it didn't do. :p So, going back to your question, you would have been correct if you had said you had bought a computer and would be giving your old one away. :-)

2004-05-28 10:40:00 | Ignore the cta in a box - Susan has provided some good info there, Ephesus. As long as most know what ya mean it's ok, but it is good geek-ness to know the correct terms, even if it is to overwhelm others with your l337 knowledge at dinner parties... before they all get up to do something they "just remembered".... Oh, by the way, Welcome to PF1, Moderator. Good to see you getting into the swing of things, when do you get your black head and shoulder's badge ;) J :D

2004-05-28 10:41:00 | Thanks. Will try to remember the terminology. | ephesus (2509) | |
2004-05-28 11:23:00 | You sure that's the new Mod Jester? See no proof that it's other than someone who thought it might be fun to sign up a neat new user name. I'm sure aroc & co would find that hugely amusing. Jester I think your going to have to force the issue here. Post something suitably explicit just to see what happens.... hmm... it would have to be bad enough to make even Susan B blush for example. Meanwhile we'll keep a lookout behind you, ok! Cheers Murray ;P

2004-05-29 02:14:00 | > Thanks . Will try to remember the terminology . Not to worry too much, it is only one of the names mis-used . eg . "Hard-drive" for the entire system box seems to be making a comeback lately . Strangely, no one takes their engine for a drive, or puts the transmission in the garage, (and cars have got heaps of electronics these days . ) Discrimination ? ? ? ? R2
