239672 2004-05-27 08:29:00 Ditto to the two previous posts.

Sometimes getting the right info takes a little time and some questions. That'ed be complicated if posts ended up in the wrong categories. Sometimes things can't be categorised so neatly as hardware or software so while the software guru is trying to help in one topic the hardware guru has missed it because its in the wrong category. Some people have no idea what the problem is or how to categorise it so of course your also going to have to have general or misc' categories.

It ain't so broke that it requires a fix. The seach funtion would be handy though.

Or alternatively remove the list altogether. I always forget to click one.

What purpose do they serve?

239678 2004-05-27 22:57:00 Hi Jack (ooops .. that's probably going to be traced by the US!) ;-0

The purpose of the registration is so that we can enable things like "watches" (so you get notified of posts etc), and to prevent "casual" (and expletive-ridden) postings from kids

... OK so it doesn't stop someone if they are really determined ... they can create themselves a username and password ... but at least that way we can keep some tabs on what gets posted. And if people are abusive and/or libellous we can then take some action to prevent it from happening again.

239679 2004-05-27 23:53:00 Hey folks. Whoa there...... All this travel stuff in the Americas, bad behaviour and language - we're veering away from my simple questions of why and what purpose, etc. The categories (sorry for the mis-spelling in the initial header). I simply keep tripping over the damn thing. Type up the posting, no matter how irrelevant, ready to go, hit Post Message, and get bitten by the "no category" rejection. Is it too late to have the program default if no selection made? Scouse (83)

It happens to me a lot as well. Sometimes takes me a minute to work out why a thread will refuse to post until I finally see what it is whining about. :D

239681 2004-05-28 01:00:00 Hmmm ... checks profile, sees Susan B has made well over 4000 posts (which must be close to a record). Grins! Thinks ... one day she'll learn.
