239838 2004-05-28 00:20:00 Hi All,

Just bought a new CPU and will be giving away the old one to a relative. Should I just reinstall windows XP or should I refomat the HDD and reinstall XP to clear all files in the system? Your thoughts?

239839 2004-05-28 00:25:00 Format - Reinstall, set it up afresh with them as the users. godfather (25)
239840 2004-05-28 01:00:00 format and reinstall Blue_face (1148)
239841 2004-05-28 01:05:00 if its only a new cpu then why bother reinstalling at all ?????

i fail to see the need for a reinstall/format.

239842 2004-05-28 01:25:00 I interpretet "new CPU" as a new computer. Hence the suggestion. godfather (25)
239843 2004-05-28 01:40:00 if they had bought a new pc i'm sure they would have said so ;-) tweak'e (174)
239844 2004-05-28 02:11:00 I took it same as Godfather, so:
If its a new PC / Upgrade box - then Format the HDD
If its only a CPU Upgrade then dont bother, its a waste of time unless you have other reasons to do so.

Chill.

239845 2004-05-28 02:13:00 I think we need more infomation.

when you say CPU do you mean the chip thats about 1 inch square?
or do you mean the full system, hard drive, CD rom and all that.

239846 2004-05-28 02:44:00 Sorry for the confusion. I meant whether to format and reinstall the old CPU that I am giving away. Any suggestions where I can get more info on formating. Remembered an article on pcworld on formating but couldn't find it now. ephesus (2509)
239847 2004-05-28 02:46:00 I meant the the whole system, hard drive, cd rom and all that. ephesus (2509)
