Sounds like your intentions are less than honorable .

As has been done to death here, you can not decompile it .

If this "friend" really wrote the program, and has no problem with you seeing the source then I'm sure they would happily provide it .

Decompiling is a underhand way of doing it, if the software is licenced or copyrighted by him then chances are it's in breach of the terms and potentially illegal .

I feel something dishonest is afoot .

240158 2004-06-01 01:29:00 he made an action game using vb.net A game similar to dune.I want to make one but he won't show me how the code works yingxuan (3330)

There's probably a good reason for that.

Why not leave his software be and create your own code.

The best you're likely to get is Assembly code from decompiling, so dont bother if you're writing it in VB.Net, because there's no point and asm is not for the faint-hearted.

Ive had trouble enough decompiling small applications, let along an Action Game.

My thoughts:
Dont bother

If your "friend" wont give you the code, thats his choice and you should respect that as a fellow programmer.

Time to Google for your own way to create a game if he wont tell you, and you dont know, I think...

240160 2004-06-01 02:27:00 there is a lot of infomation about how to write games, it all free on the Net if you do a google search.

its much better to write your own code and then ask your friend for some help with the hard parts rather than to copy all his code with out knowing how it works and then say that you wrote a game.

240161 2004-06-01 02:36:00 one good place to get info about writing games is

http://www.gamedev.net/

if you ask then about decompiler other peoples code they will not be happy and might even ban you.

if you just do lots of reading and then ask the questions about your own code they will be much nicer to you.

things to decide before you go to far in to coding the games.....
will it be openGL or directX ??
who will draw your graphics?
who will write your music?
will it support network play? over lan? over the internet?
what do you know about AI for the computer units?

once you have decided all this you can then start coding :-)

240162 2004-06-01 02:49:00 yes i know.since he won't give me the code i was thinking of decompiling it. thanks for the site .I will go have a look at that site rob posted yingxuan (3330)
240163 2004-06-01 02:57:00 With all due respect, if my friends tried to decompile my code, I'd hang them for it....

As robsonde has said, write your own. That way you know what you're doing, what it's doing, and you also have the opportunity to keep it all nice and clean and well-commented! :-)
