2004-05-29 07:04:00 | Hey, i hav rencently purchased a new computer in parts. I have bought a PC Chips M852 motherboard, now i have set it all up but it wont go!! i press the power button and nothing happens, the power supply wont even start. everything is plugged in the right places on the mb and the power is on. so i think that the mb may be incompatable with the power supply, which is called a P4 400w power supply (k-y-500ATX) is what it says on the sticker. is it possible to be incompatable with each other one being P4 and the processor being an Amd Athlon

2004-05-29 07:09:00 | Should be fine. Have you used the correct PSU plugs in the correct connections on the motherboard. I havent used a P4 cpu bit AFAIK they require different plugs for switching the power supply. Cheers Murray P

2004-05-29 07:33:00 | Are all your LED's plugged in to the right pin on the motherboard. Have you got some way of testing the PSU. Is it switched on at the wall and at the PSU, the PSU switches usually operate in the opposite drection to standard NS switches. Cheers Murray P

2004-05-29 08:05:00 | possible that the mobo is earthing out incorrectly.......I put together a system (Asus P4s800) and following the books instructions use screws to bolt the mobo onto the case.......anyway when I tried to start it the fan kicked for a split sec and that was all.........anwya after a bit of headscratching I removed all the screws and replaced them with plastic standouts.........it now works perfectly......... | drcspy (146) | |

2004-05-29 08:57:00 | They don't unless you over tighten them and stress the board. If your worried about it then back them all off half a turn, otherwise start troubleshooting the system,Are all your components brand new,do they work if you reuse the board that was replaced? Have you tried the psu in another comp?

2004-05-29 08:58:00 | I'd suggest that my system perhaps earths out thru the psu connectors and maybe the AGP/PCI cards ?...........it just would not start with any screws in it......lol | drcspy (146) | |
