240650 2004-05-31 10:24:00 I have been having major problems trying to access different sites e.g. yahoo mail & hotmail etc…(I have even had problems getting to my home page: http://home.nzcity.co.nz/ & other different sites & forums) are both slow or some time I get DNS error messages & it take least twice to get to them…. This morning I even had problems getting to Press F1 / PC world website, which took a few time to access

Even Mail Washer has been having problems connection to different mail server like Web Drives mail server (I know web drive is not having any problems as there server stats page: webdrive.secureserver.co.nz does not say.)

Is it just me who is having problems?

My ISP is Xtra & I am the Jetsurf 3GB plan, & I have Win ME and IE 5.5 SP 2 & Mail Washer 1.33 & Iam on a network

PS: This problume has only started on Friday

240652 2004-05-31 10:38:00 Stu - I have had the same things happen... I have had problems connecting to websites, the error message was that the DNS addresses were wrong, gaming pings average at over 200, and fluctuate madly between 100 - 300, frequent disconnecting and reconecting of signal .... :(

If I connect to the JSG Realm the ping is steady and the connection is solid.

I used to have good pings on 128K, and the connection was very stable - in fact I can't recall any outtages.

I am with Orcon. I rung Orcon tonight, and they said that, as far as game pings go, it is out of their control, as Telecom controls the amount of bandwidth available to subscribers for gaming and file sharing to meet demand (throttling?). When I was on 128K, Orcon didn't do this.

So, with the above, and the 222.xxx IP issue, I am thinking of going back to 128 and paying Orcon the moneythat is currently going to Telecom.

240654 2004-05-31 15:54:00 Thanks for the link to your home site, Stu.
No, I can't help with yiour problem, but I'm always interested in new NZ sites to explore - and I didn't know about this one's existence.

240655 2004-05-31 19:53:00 Stu - Why are you still using IE 5.5 when you could be using IE 6 with all the latest security patches.

IE 5.5 is no longer being updated.

240656 2004-05-31 20:22:00 this isn't likely to be the 222.XXX.XXX.X issue that telecom has admitted, and buy the way its not telecoms fault, IP's in that range havn't been officially given out so therefore its assumed only hackers use them.
the reason its not going to be the 222 issue is because you are trying to goto a normal site like nzcity.co.nz

when i moved over from jetstart to jetsurf i had problems where pages would suddenly stop loading for a few minutes, (the line wasn't dropped)
i learnt to use tracert from the dos prompt to track if these errors were really happening or whether it was just the site gone down.

If it is Not broking, it does not need fixing ;) & I use to for testing web sites as well plus I am upgrading to win xp soon......

(I might be wrong here, as I have not been to the MS site for a month or so), you might find they still support it.
