2004-05-31 00:41:00 | Ive been trying to install my old copy of Dos on and old celeron 500 computer but my computer wont recognise the disks. my computer is set up to boot from floppy first but when it reads the disk it spits up an error saying that it cannot find any files. the old DOS disks themselves are fine with no damage to them. ive also noted i cannot seem to run Knoppix from the cd when i set bios to boot from cd first too.. it has the same error message. my specs are biostar m6tbc mobo 1 x 128mb pc 100 ram 2 x 64mb pc 100 ram fujitsu 7gb hdd

2004-05-31 01:55:00 | Are you trying to install dos 6.22 or similar? Are they original MS disks or have they been copied? If copied from MS disks then the diskcopy command should have been used, else disk 1 wont boot. Can you boot off a windows 98 or similar boot disk? If so then the boot sector on your floppy is not working, or the dos disks are otherwise kaput, thats assuming your floppy drive is Ok. If you dont have anther boot disk to test try downloading some from bootdisk.com

2004-05-31 07:21:00 | What you could do is to make up a new MS-DOS 6.22 Disk #1 by downloading a Dos 6.22 bootdisk, say from here (www.oldfiles.streamlinetrial.co.uk) and then just copy onto it all the files from your existing disk 1 except for IO.sys and msdos.sys. | Terry Porritt (14) | |
2004-05-31 08:29:00 | You can download dos 7.1 without Gui here -newdos.yginfo.net It's available as an ISO image too :) Have MS Dos with LFN and FAT32 support. tis all good. | mark.p (383) | |
2004-06-05 15:06:00 | I am curious to know what you intend to do with the Dos once it is Installed? I use half of Windows 98 for handling my Dos Utes ( Partition Magic etc)
