241067 2004-06-02 02:03:00 Hi all.

I have a wireless network at home - one desktop win XP home that connects to the net, one win xp laptop and another desktop, this time running win 2000 professional.

I have ICS running so the laptop and the win 2000 machine can access the net - this works sweetly as long as i disable the Zone Alarm firewall.

If the firewall is running, I cannot browse the web on the 'clients'

I have added a trusted IP range of 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.254.254

AND have added individual trusted IP addresses that the two clients run.

The firewall blocks net access anyway.

- - I disabled the firewall for one day and night, and ended up with the Sasser worm. (which I have since fixed)

Any Ideas?

Cheers

241068 2004-06-02 02:18:00 Hi Jaxson, what version of Zone Alarm are you running? If it is the free version then you will find that ICS does not work. It is a "feature" of the Pro version.
You could try using Sygate version 5 or later which has full ics support and is free for personal use.
Have a look here. smb.sygate.com
Hope this helps

241069 2004-06-02 02:20:00 First of all, to prevent the Sasser worm you need to be going to Windows Update. This is a MUST!

Second of all, check here for a quick prevention of the worm while you're getting the Windows Updates:
www.updatexp.com

(Is it just me or are Viruses really stupid nowadays!)

Next, try making your Network Card a trusted device.

Ive not done ICS with Zone Alarm, but get your Updates and prevent the worm using the technique from the above URL.

I see now on Zone Alarm's website they tell you to upgrade to pro if you want to use ICS. :o(

I always liked ZA.
I might even pay for it. I've been using it for three years or something for free.

241071 2004-06-02 02:30:00 Thanks CS - I used 'Stinger' to get rid of the Sasser Worm.

I had always allowed the automatic updates to install whenever the system saw fit, but there may have been something wrong with it.

241072 2004-06-02 06:53:00 You could use Xp's firewall?
It actually works pretty good.
