Any ideas?

240955 2004-06-01 09:33:00 checked the logow.sys file and it seemed to be allright.. agent_24 (4330)
240956 2004-06-01 10:10:00 Did you remove the old driver before shutting down to change out cards?
Have a look in device manager while in SAFEmode to "eliminate" any others listed. Quite often they will only show in safemode but not normal mode.
Worth a crack?

240957 2004-06-01 10:41:00 i've not used Windows for a while, but I remember thesse symptoms on PC's running norton AV and (I think) an s3 video card. The cause was nortons. timo (5725)
240958 2004-06-02 05:33:00 yes, i just tried that - the old card was still in there under safe mode.

(it seems to work now but im not too sure)

and, by the way - i do have norton AV on that computer and the card Is an S3 Trio.

240959 2004-06-02 05:35:00 no, the problem is still there. agent_24 (4330)
240960 2004-06-02 05:37:00 come to think of it, it worked fine when shutting down from safe mode, and that could have been becuase norton didnt load in safe mode.... agent_24 (4330)
240961 2004-06-02 06:37:00 i disabled norton, restarted then shut down again but still problem is there. agent_24 (4330)
240962 2004-06-02 14:05:00 yeah, i was 99% sure it was the norton/s3 clash.
It is harmless, BTW, bit just looks ugly.
I worked in a PC repair shop for a couple of summer, we tried millions of things but never found a fix.
Disabling nortons probably won't help because it would still load some of the behind the scenes stuff.
3 options are: different vid card, different AV, or live with it.
You only see that screen for a couple of seconds a day anyway, so it's not a biggie.
As I say, it should not cause any performance problems, only cosmetic.

240963 2004-06-03 05:20:00 True, the only thing about it really is its just annoying

I might switch to PC-Cillin on that machine or something.

But why the heck would norton and an S3 do that anyway?
Oh well, I suppose weirder things have happened.....
