| 242097 | 2004-06-06 00:07:00 | Hi all, i can send a fax using the fax in xp but cannot receive any. Did a search on F1 but could not find the answer to my prob. I have a scanner but no printer installed on system. I have no call waiting on the phone or anything else in that manner.Just a basic home phone line. I'm connecting to net thru a 56k dialup. Ive sent a fax to my mate so i know that it sends but when ever i try to receive a fax it says something like; Ready to Receive Faxes Ringing Ringing Answered Reception error Anyone got any ideas? |

| 242099 | 2004-06-06 00:18:00 | Windows XP Fax has many shortcomings, not the least of which is that it just won't work reliably with many modems commonly installed . Modem incompatibility is not apparent during installation or the initial setup . It only becomes apparent when you try to send or receive a fax . The Fax Service will dial or will answer an incoming fax but fail with any number of error messages such as "Reception error . " There will be nothing in Event Viewer to give a clue as to where any problem might lie either . The best advice is to attempt to use XP Fax only if you have a modem that is listed on the Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List and you are using the latest drivers for the modem . |

| 242100 | 2004-06-06 00:24:00 | Thanks johnboy and godfather for the replies. will investigate it further. The modem is a new software type one so the combatiblity issue could be there. Cheers, popa | popa (5638) | ||
