241688 2004-06-04 09:20:00 During boot,w98se keeps finding new hardware
"search for drivers for PCI System management Bus"
and hangs until manually cancelled.
Tried all installation disks/folders/files (including some not even remotely
applicable!)
Only hardware on PCI is modem.
No other problems with any hardware/software.
Any way to disable windows desire to search for h'ware?

241691 2004-06-04 09:45:00 Have you loaded the motherboard drivers?
And just for info, what motherboard brand & model?

241692 2004-06-04 21:36:00 Yes, been thru the m'board installation disc from front to back.
The m'board is a Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 Pro2 with a P4 2.8g CPU

241693 2004-06-04 21:59:00 If you just transfered your existing Hard Drive over to a new M/B without a clean install of Windows, you will have problems like this. You need to format & re-install everything - or put up with odd problems.
My past experiences.

241694 2004-06-05 00:46:00 No, the installation was into a clean drive, but i have just done a
!!complete!! re-installation of the m'board drivers, and the "PCI etc "
problem does not appear, and thus does not halt the boot sequence,
but now I have a big yellow question mark in the System/device drivers/
other devices. I shall leave well alone until it becomes a problem with other programmes!!!
thanks for all the sugestions
Dave
