241925 2004-06-05 02:10:00 Hi all. I just got the full version of Alcohol 120%, and am having a few problems making images. The CD-ROm drive spint up at full speed, then slows to a crawl, giving "disk read errors". This is a 52x Cyclone Computers OEM drive. The disks run fine if playing the games off the physical drive, but my favourites take a long time to load, and I have H/D space to burn. I haven't tested the copying, because I don't have a CD-RW drive (but will soon). What could be the matter? The disks are clean, so should I just give the drive a clean with a cleaning disk? 241926 2004-06-05 02:14:00 Chances are it has copy protection. Maybe check with a program called ClonyXXL Pheonix (280)
241927 2004-06-05 02:46:00 apparently it has safedisk 1.14.001- and alcohol says it can do lazerlock, secuROM, safedisk and safedisk2 Megaman (344)
241928 2004-06-05 02:47:00 the disk, by the way is SimCity 3000 (yes it's old, but it's still good ;)) Megaman (344)
241929 2004-06-05 02:56:00 Now look for a program called Alcoholer , which reads the settings from ClonyXXL and puts them into Alcohol 120% so it can correct for the protection.

241932 2004-06-05 03:42:00 It is the copy protection and will take some time to go through the errors as the drive slow to try and make sense of them. It should finish okay though.
As for re-burning them and getting them to work again on a CD-R or CD-RW you might be a bit disappointed in the results. Some drives can write the errors back and some cant. Not sure if Alcohol can even write the errors back. I know it can by-pass them when running the files from the images made though. CloneCD used to be good for making backups but again you need a drive to be able to read/write the data for the copy protection.
Do a search on the net for copy protection and have a look through some of the articles if you are more interested.

241933 2004-06-05 04:03:00 With safedisk protections you should have the fast error skip feature turned on. With safedisk they fill the first part of the cd with 1000's of errors to fool copy protection software. Fast error skip, goes through them really quick and continues with the more important stuff. kiki (762)
241934 2004-06-05 05:09:00 ClonyXXL is both English and German

Click on the Button that says "Optionen/Tools" and choose English!

If I were you I would right-click on the little A Icon in your Systray and enable Emulation for at least the upper three options under "Emulation" :-)

Chill.
