242518 2004-06-07 09:03:00 In the process of cleaning up after an electrician (grrrrr.... another story), I am needing to repair the phone wiring where it comes into the house.

The Telecom cable from outside contains 4 wires (black, yellow, tan, white). From there, there is a huge birds nest of amassed wires, joiners etc. including the DSL filter and two test termination units.

What I would like to know is .... should the wiring look like this:
[pre]
External Cable ==++======= DSL socket
||
++== DSL filter ===== phone socket

DSL circuit is unfiltered, phone circuit is filtered.

242522 2004-06-09 04:42:00 Just make sure you have the filter the right way round.The blue/white to the phones,orange/white to the line.

Only at night, when the blue and the orange both become grey ;)
(In Dunedin, they become gray, however) :D

242525 2004-06-10 07:44:00 Uh oh ..... already done it, can't remember which way around, and I don't fancy pulling it all out of the wall again.
Is there a specific reason why Mr. Coleman? It all seems to be working ok.

242526 2004-06-10 09:32:00 If you have it the wrong way around,it will actually block the DSL,so if it's working,it must be right.
