242714 2004-06-08 03:34:00 I need to scan some old 35mm negatives and was wondering what is the minimum dpi resolution I need in order to display .. say 1024x768 on screen? I don't need to print it, just on display :)

I know I'll need a high dpi since the 35mm negative is so small, but I don't know what is the minimum ...

Thanks in advance as this will help me to choose my scanner :)

242715 2004-06-08 04:22:00 Well, the minimum is to get 1024 pixels onto the screen, and 35 mm is a bit over 1 - 1/4 inches, so, rounding off to the commonly available resolutions, - 1200 would be about the lowest you would want. As usual for images, more is better. You can always scan at a lower resolution for small files, but the scanner sets the maximum definition/detail you can get. It is possibly better to get the negative printed (photographicaly) and scan the print if you want the best detail.

242716 2004-06-08 04:55:00 Thanks for your reply .. when you say 1200 is what i need .. does that mean i should be looking at a scanner with vertical dpi no less than 1200? So a standard 1200 x 600 dpi is not good enough, correct? Since the higher dpi always refer to the horizontal dpi. SKT174 (1319)
