242755 2004-06-08 07:53:00 I love that motherboard. I wanted to buy one, but apparently they aint being made anymore, or something....

Anyway I know where I can get one, but I don't understand:

There is no replacement (anything equivalent) anymore., but they are making lower boards... everyone I've talked to thought it was awesome!

Is it because the entire computer architecture is soon to undergo radical overhaul?

Unless there is a distinct reason why I shouldn't, I'm going to buy it anyway, I just wanted to know what was going on...

242756 2004-06-08 08:05:00 ...could it be to do with the upcoming BTX standard ?

As far as I’m aware they only distributed that main board in NZ for about 3 months (mid last year), so anything you get now will be old stock.

242758 2004-06-08 08:29:00 Yes, but does that mean it's bad? Growly (6)

Not necessarily, however I wouldn’t recommend that board from personal experience. If I was to purchase a replacement for my 7NNXP I would probably look at the $96 MSI 6570 or $159 MSI 6570H.

242760 2004-06-08 10:05:00 I was looking at buying of those last week but couldn't find them anywhere. I settled for a GA-7N400Pro 2, just as good and I think it has Gigabit lan wheras the XP only had 10/100 and some other random feature I didn't need. kiki (762)
242761 2004-06-08 10:08:00 The 7N400Pro 2 is also a good choice. Please note that the 7NNXP has both 1x 10/100 and 1x 10/100/1000 LAN adaptors. :) nz_liam (845)
242762 2004-06-08 10:27:00 Yes but can you use the 1Gbit adaptor for normal LAN or does it have to be used as a network gateway?

Only difference I could see was that (www.gigabyte.com.tw), Dual Power System and it was a Nforce Ultra400 chipset. No real great loss from the Pro2.

Besides why invest in Socket A anyway? XP3200+ is the end of the line. Everything is moving to Socket 939 with the big FX, opteron and the other 64bit line.

It's just a standard un-managed built in network adaptor, (either PCI or USB bus type, can’t remember), so you can use it for whatever function's your OS supports, be that a router, gateway or bridge etc.

Agreed.

Invest :D:p, my next personal desktop will be based on the Gen 2 AMD64, 32 Bit AMD’s are near end of line and there’s not much point buying one now.

242764 2004-06-08 11:38:00 OK I ordered it.

From what I can tell, I paid an extra $120 for

- An extra LAN Port (they can be used separately for any function) ($15 separately)
- Dolby certified southbridge (huge sound quality) (worth buying a sb audigy for $120 separately, i think)
- Integrated firewire ($80 for an addon card)

Great....

I'll just have to get a job, I guess... but It's ok, I've wanted this motherboard fromt he moment I lay eyes on it. I found a site that stocks it, and bought one (in a rush - that was langear.co.nz)

I've heard much about the pro2, and although there is not much decision, i'm sure the extra money is for something....
