2004-06-10 06:33:00 | How would I go about connecting my Fedora Core 1 machine to a Windows Server 2003 system with remote console? Before my motherboard ran off the cliff, I used the mstsc program that came with windows. I am unsure if this is VNC compatible, and I know of a remote console in linux that is. So, how would I connect? Can i even do so?

2004-06-11 05:50:00 | This had me stumped for a while too, but try: 192.168.0.XYZ:0 Adding the :0 to the end of it tells it you want Dislpay :0 which is the default Display. In Linux you can have more than just the one Display which would be :1 etc. Try this in Linux: Ctrl + Alt + F2 login as your user, then type: startx -- :1 You should now have another $DISPLAY :-) Hit Ctrl + Alt + F7 to get back to :0 and Ctrl + Alt + F8 to get to :1 That's just a little explanation for why you have to add :0 after the IP Address :-) Cheers Chill.

2004-06-11 21:23:00 | Awesome, cheers. Ok now i can press the connect button, but it says there is no server found... are you sure the inbuilt remote console (mstsc) and this are compatible?
Growly (6) | ||
2004-06-11 22:49:00 | mstsc IIRC = Remote Desktop Client, Yes, it is compatible. Im not too sure what you have to do, but basically just setup WinXP to take any connection that comes its way. You may need to right-click on My Computer and click properties and have a look around in there at the settings. Sorry I cant be more specific, Im in Gentoo right now and dont have a WinXP machine handy, but Ive connected to RDC if thats what you're meaning by mstsc?
