243085 2004-06-09 08:40:00 Evening all

I have installed xandros 2.0 on my computer and all is going well almost all of my hardware was set up perfectly EXCEPT my scanner which is a HP scanjet 3200c. Now i have sane installed and have found the correct config file for my scanner. i have looked at the xandros help forums and found a guy with the same scanner as me and he gives full info on how to set it up. So i opened the file and went to edit it with a text editor. This where i need your help. How do you edit a file do you remove the # in front of the line you want to activate or do you have to do something else.

Any help would be great thanks in advance

PS
Smoothwall is running great

243086 2004-06-09 08:46:00 To uncomment out a line (the ones with a #) in front of them, you just need to delete the #. This makes that line in the config readable. You will need to be root to do this.

Often descriptions and explanations in config files will have # on each line. This are not meant to be uncommented out.

Let us know if you need further help.

PS* It pays to make a backup copy of the original config before fiddling with them :)

243087 2004-06-09 09:11:00 Thanks for your help so once you have removed the # from the line you want to get working do you have to reboot in order to get the whole thing working

Thanks in advance

243088 2004-06-09 09:23:00 You should only have to start up sane or xsane again and it will read the new config. Jen C (20)
243089 2004-06-10 01:42:00 In fact. the only time you need to reboot to activate changes is when you have installed a new kernel. :D *nix is an Operating System, and one of the fundamentals is that the system keeps going. ;-)

You just restart the server or application.

Even inittab, which is a very important system configuration file, is just reread with init q after any changes.
