243045 2004-06-09 06:42:00 Hi have swet up a hotmail account to work in Outlook 2002. It receives emails fine and is synchronised with hotmail.

But I can not send an email. I also have another email account which works perfectly fine.

There is no request for a username or password when I access hotmail through outlook, although I am not sure if it should.

What do you think is wrong? (with my settings, not me)

well hotmail aint exactly the hottest email service around, and outlook aint exactly the best piece of software ever written....

what i would suggest is using outlook express instead of outlook if you are only using it for email. i used to use outlook express and things chugged along nicely with a hotmail account.
sorry i can't directly anser your question about outlook because i haven't used it, but i think i remember reading somewhere that it does not support hotmail accounts. this might have been from an earlier version than 2002 though.

remember too that hotmail is really designed to be web interfaced.

243047 2004-06-09 07:29:00 Hotmail had actually stopped external based programs to have hotmail (outlook and so on) unless u are on a paid service with hotmail...
but i'm using outlook 2003 and not having a problem but the downside is it asks for password every time i get it to check so i changed that to once a hour compared to my ISP address which is every 5 mins..so i know on the hour i gonna be accessing hotmail..so far no issues..

and when you set up your hotmail in Outlook did you try clicking on "test settings" (not sure if this is in earlier versions of outlook but it was on 2003 hence so i could test if i entered things correctly...)

As far as I am aware, you can only use hotmail in outlook express / outlook XP & in outlook 2003.

I think it more like designed for both

So Not true, I don’t know where you read that! I think their where rumours going around about that, but that was only a rumour

I have been using outlook express with hotmail for a few year now & I have never had any problems, like that, the only time I had that problem was when hotmail had problems.

243050 2004-06-09 08:46:00 It appears that your "problem" is by design. Outlook 2002 and later versions include Hotmail support, but with some limitations. The chief limitation is that you can access only one Hotmail account per profile. See the following pages for more information:

243051 2004-06-09 09:49:00 Hotmail is supported in Outlook 2002. It provides me with the option of having an http account with hotmail being the default.

Somehow got it sent now. Don't ask me what I did.

This thread is basically pointless now.

Enjoy other threads for tonight!
