243418 2004-06-13 10:04:00 Hi again,

The single free magazine cover CD of Xandros Version 2 that I have does have a TRIAL version of Crossover Office on it but from recall you have to tick it to install it . It does require some upgrade stuff from Xandros networks though but it will advise you of that and I found no difficulty in installing it . The trial version of Crossover office is time limited to 30 days upon which it will stop functionaing after 15 minutes of use each time you use it .

The purchased or boxed version or Deluxe Version 2 . 0 does have the full Crossover Office included and it works well .

The Deluxe version 2 also has a DVD player and brillaint CD writing software that in my own view is better and more flexible than Windows XPs CD Writer system . The Xandros one allows music CDs, data CDs the bulkding of a Data CD and copy CD functions on the llick of an icon .

I understand from reports from Sun and Openoffice . org, that Openoffice . org is identical to Star Office except for the fact that Openoffice doesn't have the database that forms a part of Star Office . Sun Microsystems have made all the source code for the rest of it to openoffice . org which I use under Windows XP when I want to save a file for MS Office 2000 . MY MS Office 97 doesn't do that .

I use Mozilla under Xandros as the browser of choice and email client as supplied with Xandros version 2 and above . I use Eudora and Netscape 7 . 1 under windows .

Cheers :-)

243419 2004-06-13 21:55:00 That's interesting about the DVD player and CD burner software in your version of Xandros Version 2. My Deluxe edition was purchased commercially, but I am sure that I had to download a burner (can't remember what it was called now but it was something like Nero in style). Perhaps I misremember, and I can't check now as it has been obliterated by the install of the Business Ed.

Xandros comes with an integrated CD-Burner that works closely with the File-Manager, similar to that of Windows XP (Only the Xandros one is way cooler)!

Im not sure what you're downloaded, but I'd highly recommend K3b for any Linux user wanting to burn CD's.

I was thoroughly put off CD Burning in Linux back in the days of Redhat 8/9 when I found documentation telling me I had to recompile my kernel to get my burner to work (When really I only needed to add a line to Grub), coupled with the fact that I really dont like X CD-Roast at all (Its butt ugly compared to K3b) I was really disheartened. K3b is very similar to Nero, only slightly more gui'd up :-)

Havent seen the DVD Player in the Deluxe edition, but I use Kaffeine anyways ;-)

Yes, it was k3b that I downloaded (on your recommendation as far as I recall); now lost with the over install of the Business Ed. The burner that comes with the BEd looks fine to me.

Maybe I just don't remember the CD burner integrated with Xandros Deluxe... Or maybe I didn't find it... Or maybe I just got carried away and followed your recommendation to download and install k3b!

Cheers
