2004-06-10 21:05:00 | How to turn off CD-ROM Autorun Windows 95, 98, ME Users When you insert a CD into your CD-ROM drive Windows automatically loads the program on the CD. For Audio CDs Windows opens your default music program and automatically plays the CD. This is how to disable that from happening. Click Start / Settings / Control Panel then double click on System. (There are a couple of other ways to get to this window. 1) Right click My Computer and choose Properties 2) Hold down the Windows key and press Pause/Break). Then click on the Device Manager tab. Click on the '+' sign next to your CD-ROM to expand the CD-ROM listing. Then highlight your CD-ROM drive by left-clicking on your drive once. Then click on Properties. Now click on the Settings tab. Take the tick away from the Auto insert notification check box. Then click OK. You will have to restart Windows for the change to take effect. Alternatively, you can use TweakUI - Open up Tweakui - Click Start / Settings / Control Panel. Then double click the Tweakui icon. Then click on the Paranoia tab. Then take the tick out of the following check boxes - Play audio CDs automatically & Play data CDs automatically. Again you will need to reboot for the changes to take effect. copied from: www.cybertechhelp.com

2004-06-11 02:57:00 | ROTFLMAO :^O Your solution is bigger than my problem metla! My solution, pending Kodak's response, is elegantly simple if I do say so myself. I created a desktop shortcut to the CD player and open the program before inserting my CD. Kodak Easyshare doesn't even see it coming and stays asleep, blissfully unaware that it has been outflanked. Of course this means that i can't download photographs from my CD player but what the heck, we all have to make some sacrifices in life.:| Thanks to all for the advice. Cheers Billy 8-{)

The problem is that when the table of contents is being recorded, Windows suddenly "sees" the new CD and tries to read it, which can cause the burn to fail . To disable AIN on Win2k, Click the Start button followed by selecting "Run" . Type in "gpedit . msc" and click OK . Click and expand "Computer Configuration", followed by "Administrative Template", followed by "System" . Double click "Disable Autoplay" and then select "Enable" followed by clicking "OK" . In The Registry Windows 2000 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\CDRom] Enable: "Autorun"="1" Disable: "Autorun"="0 You may have to reboot . If you hold down the Shift key when inserting the CD, Auto Insert Notification is temporarily disabled . |

2004-06-12 00:04:00 | Thanks for the suggestions JB, but I don't have a recording/burning problem. It is a simple "unwanted program startup while playing music cd" issue. I have found a quick 'n easy solution as detailed above, but I'd still like to find a way to stop Koadak easyshare from starting. BTW, Kodak's oh-so-helpful advice was to shut down the Kodak program before playing CDs. It was a personalised reply too, not an auto generated response, but not very helpful at all because it doesn't address the problem. On top of that my own work-around is easier and simpler to use. | 243157 | 2004-06-12 01:04:00 | Billy, open an explorer window (not IE) and go to Tools > Folder Options > File Types tab. Check out the listings there to see if your Kodak programme has got itself associated with files it shouldn't have or you don't want it to be. If that is the case, for eg, AIFF, WAV, MPEG, MP3, etc, cahnge the association by highlighting the file type, hit the change button and scoll to the app you want to asscociate it to instead. Long shot but, I take it this camera can do audio an video or the programme has those capabilities for different camera models. Could be worth a look at least. Cheers Murray P

2004-06-12 03:36:00 | I've been through all the associations Murray and Kodak is not represented. Nor is anything else recognisable.:( There is a slight delay between CD insertion/detection and the opening of Easyshare so it appears that some command or action associated with the operation of the CD player (or my elderly Soundblaster Audio card) is talking to Easyshare and pretending it is a camera. After I do my next backup image I'll do an upgrade of all associated drivers and see if that helps. Cheers Billy 8-{)

2004-06-12 03:43:00 | Why not just ditch the kodak software?,surely w2k recorgnises it as a camera and lets you access the device as a storage unit. Never seen the problems your having but i have had to remove kodak easyshare off a number of computers,Mainly due to it causing system slowdows and re-asigning itself as default picture handler.... I found even when working properly the software served no purpose,Free programs can do a much better job without the asociated garbo.
