No I haven't. Could you explain what I should do (orwhy I should, my knowledge is somewhat lacking here).

I tried a link on a previous page and it just made things worse - web pages wouldn't load. I tried another registry tweak from a site I found with Google, same result. In both cases I had to use system restore.

But thanks tweak'e and everyone else for taking the time to help me; I really appreciate it.

243041 2004-06-09 10:32:00 Hmmmm, so you both used the same connection....

but, what about network settings? protocol stacks maybe bogging ya down!

243042 2004-06-09 10:51:00 It really doesn't like tweaks; I just tried speeding up networking with "Tweak XP Pro". This had the same effect as my previous attempt, only difference here is I could reset it without having to resort to system restore.

Is this related to the Qos that tweak'e was mentioning?

I'd be a bit leery about removing things there, unless I knew what I was doing.

243043 2004-06-09 11:20:00 I removed QoS and on the speed test therewas an initial improvement - 28 KBps, but on subsequent tests it dropped back to 6-7 KBps jcr1 (893)
243044 2004-06-11 21:21:00 I've finally been able to improve it.
Downloaded a GUI called DRTCP from www.dslreports.com
and also followed through their recommendations after doing a test, run on their site. I just put in a different value for RWIN at the lowest end of their recommendation (5276 to 7200). Didn't alter MTU. Now getting downloads of 28 to 29 KBs which is a big difference from where I was at 8 to 12 KBs.
So, a big thankyou to everyone who took the trouble to help.
