1364165 2014-01-03 05:46:00 Just want confirmation about which anti-virus to purchase.

My g/f's business computers have Trend Micro installed and the licence is about to expire. I've suggested the employees all install MSE for a free solution, else NOD32 for a paid solution. There's 5 computers. Most have XP, one has Win8.

What would you folks suggest, please?

1364167 2014-01-03 06:17:00 Nod 32. You get discounted subs for more than one PC. CliveM (6007)

Go with nod32 and, as they would be changing from a competing product, they can get the new licenses at the renewal pricing, just need to let wherever they buy from know this.

1364170 2014-01-22 08:18:00 Kaspersky Internet Security is always great!

If you want free, Comodo Antivirus is free and awesome!

NOT NOT NOT internet security Suites of any flavour. Just get a basic AV package.
XP PC's may struggle with bloatware suites

NOD32 AV for a paid solution. Not because of its detection rate (not as perfect as some imply, but getting better ?) , but because its very reliable, wont slow down PC's, has log file's that are easy to actually find & give usefull info (duh Norton.McAfee) & will give the least headaches, long term.

Ive seen many (not all) XP PC's slow down with MSE .
Avast is OK for a free Alternative. Expect to have popups wanting to to upgrade/buy with many of the free AV's. Some freeware have very very annoying popups( Avir)
Kaspersky has a great detection rate (one of the best AV's) , but I wouldnt want it on my PC , especially older PC's.

Keep in mind that no AV is perfect, virus's can & will get through any AV . If the user is just stupid, they will click on popups & open links in bogus emails & get infected regardless (yes even with NOD32 , as per some of my customers) .
Just tell the purchaser this when making recommendations, to cover your ass .
