1364160 2014-01-02 22:26:00 Howdy,

I currently own a Desktop pc - the Desktop has an i7 2600k and HD7970 - which is now infrequently used and am wishing to sell it to pick up a new laptop. I have anywhere around 2000 to spend on the laptop. Im looking for a laptop which is capable of running the likes of Battlefield 4, BF3 and Arma 3 on medium/high settings. Other than gaming the laptop will be used for browsing the net, and video editing/photo editing. It is essentially required to replace my Desktop, without losing the whole gaming aspect but I'm willing to decrease the performance side of things for the improved portability.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Cheers

1364161 2014-01-03 02:43:00 My son has an MSI 1756 which he loves and uses for gaming. It certainly is a nice machine and cost $2000 about a year ago.

This looks like the latest equivalent - www.playtech.co.nz

1364162 2014-01-03 06:18:00 I have an MSI GT680 which I have run for a couple of years now. So yup I concur MSI is a great desktop replacement.
Two comments (learned the hard way)
1/ Motherboard meltdown: You must provide adequate cooling and ventilation. These are high performance machines in lightweight plastic cases - I am not saying they are a poor build - they aren't, we are talking performance here. The case is flexible and responsive when gaming if placed on a firm cool surface. MSI happily and quickly replaced two motherboards, both meltdowns were a direct result of my (then) 14 year old son treating it like a cheap laptop, however as both occurred within warranty no questions were asked and each replacement took less than two weeks, pretty amazing given we are rural delivery.
2/ Piano Black and disco lights. What can I say? The aesthetics are awful... at least you can turn the lights off. To be fair - the piano black wipes clean easily and fingerprints only build up if you don't polish regularly.
Performance is bliss, I run full Adobe CS6 graphics on it, and relax in Skyrim on full graphics and Beats audio.

MSI is definitely a candidate

I have been looking at the MSI GX70 pricespy.co.nz It looks like it could handle alot the games which im will be wanting to play on medium settings.

Im just looking for further advice, as to whether i should buy this laptop once my desktop is sold, or are there others which are priced around the same ball park with a noticeable jump in performance?

1364164 2014-01-08 20:43:00 Well - I have just bought a laptop for my son to replace his old PC. Its an HP Envy 14 and runs his 32" LED TV and 23" Monitor with ease. He uses mouse and keyboard with it, so a bit of unplugging to do if he wants to move it, but mostly it sits there and performs the function of a desktop PC. EFFIGY (12530)
