1363876 2013-12-29 23:59:00 I have Seagate's FreeAgent Go external hard drive which includes automatic backup software. I now bought a new computer running Win 8.1 for which Seagate doesn't offer software for its Go model. Can I load a third-party backup software for Win 8.1 on my FreeAgent Go and if yes, what can be recommended?

Many thanks for the help.

1363877 2013-12-30 01:57:00 Why not use the backup option that already comes with Windows 8? Just point it to the external drive. ronyville (10611)
1363878 2013-12-30 02:07:00 Thanks ronyville.

I knew the answer is right in front of my nose ... just didn't smell the coffee. I will try it out. Many thanks.

1363879 2013-12-30 05:03:00 And don't forget to take the external drive off site. Digby (677)

Because if it's anything like the one on Win7 it's bloated and makes huge backups.

I'd use Syncback to do the data and Active@ for an image.

1363881 2013-12-31 23:09:00 I want to try out Windows 8.1's File History backup app and I got stuck. I've partitioned my harddrive into C: and D:. My personal folders are on D: and are the files that need backing up. But the File History app says that only files and folders in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders can be backed up.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

1363882 2014-01-01 00:22:00 There may be no way around it and you may have to use a different program Agent_24 (57)

pctek's advise is golden. Her method is easy to use and it has the advantage of always working.
