1363683 2013-12-26 21:24:00 Hi, I would appreciate some advice on the following. I have just recently bought a new computer, windows 7, logitech Z506 5.1 speakers with gigabyte motherboard and onboard sound (VIA Vinyl™ VT2021 - 10 channel HD Audio Codec).

The surround sound works great when playing a DVD but with games (like titan quest, rome total war etc) I only get sound through two front speakers (ie 2.1 sound). I know for certain these games and others I have tried support surround sound, total war has options for both EAX (VT2021 is supposed to have support for Creative Audio Program, whatever that means exactly) and direct sound3D but I can't select either of these options.

I am now thinking I need to get a soundblaster USB or card which have creative alchemy and EAX support (which will probably be better for older games at least). These are the options:

- Creative Sound Blaster Play USB Sound Card 90dB
(www.pbtech.co.nz)

- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Go Pro, USB Sound Card
www.pbtech.co.nz

- Creative Sound Blaster 5.1VX PCI
www.pbtech.co.nz

- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Value
www.pbtech.co.nz

Sorry for long post but any advice or wisdom would be great
Cheers
Nathan

1363684 2013-12-26 21:51:00 You may need to download a more capable audio driver, if its using the one installed by Win7 (can be very generic), as an example the Realtek audio driver from the manufacturer is much better than the W7 or mobo driver(s).

1363685 2013-12-26 22:01:00 You can use Win7 drivers, (I'm using them), all you have to do is go to sounds select the speakers or whatever the sound is connected to / click on configure bottom left. Change it to 5:1 first . Then click on properties bottom right / enhancements. Click speaker fill

I've got the same speakers here. And all speakers should work, once you tick speaker fill.

Altho it may or may not depend on whether the games were made for 5:1 speakers. One thing if you do decide to keep these speakers. If you move them somewhere else, make sure you turn it off first. When I got mine, it was on and when I plugged the power in the fuse in it blew. I had to take them back to Noel Leemings to replace them

1363686 2013-12-27 09:14:00 Hi Speedy, I did find the speaker fill option, but that is not true surround sound as I understand, isn't it just putting the same sound from your two front speakers into the other speakers?

Cheers

1363687 2013-12-27 10:01:00 Pass but it maybe the only way you'll get sound thru 5 speakers. Or get the latest via drivers from the via site Speedy Gonzales (78)
