1343741 2013-05-28 00:52:00 Hey Billy

Thanks for all the laughs over the years. They have been appreciated. :clap

I also saw this in one of your posts on the Chat closing down.

As it happens, I am going to be out of town next Monday; Mrs T and I will be in the South Island celebrating a 'significant birthday' (I'm a 1948 model, you can do the math )

If my math is correct then all the best for your 65th birthday next week mate. :happybday

1343742 2013-05-28 06:52:00 Thanks Ken, your good wishes are appreciated.

I am actually in pretty good condition for a 1948 model, chassis is sound, no visible corrosion, bodywork still in original condition with no dents but inevitably there are a few scratches and battle scars to prove I've actually been there and done that. One major collision experienced, but repairs were successful, original parts reconditioned and refitted, and no bog used.

My rings are good, but naturally there is the occasional puff of smoke from the exhaust under hard acceleration, however a little blow-by can be expected on models of this vintage. I have to disclose that there are now some thin patches on the upholstery, but I regard that as a sign of maturity and have no intention of fitting slip-on covers or any other vanity-driven camouflage system.

There are a few more additives required in the fuel these days, at least Mrs T insists that they must be used to ensure ongoing performance levels, and like all other assets, insurance costs are rising, but running costs are reducing slighly due to the lower number of daily trips and fewer passengers.

In terms of potential resale value, it helps that there has been just one lady owner, though a few tire kickers passed by before she turned up (late as usual) and I've not often been driven in the rain. I've been kept well away from beaches and salt water, so all in all I've held my value well and with rising demand due to the shortage of this vintage, selling would not be difficult, however it is unlikely that I will be placed on the market any time in the foreseeable future.

Cheers

1343748 2013-05-28 22:35:00 I have always looked forward to your Monday funnies, Billy, and I'm glad that you are going to continue. I'll look forward to moving over and catching all that mirth. It's a really great way to start the week.

Good to hear that you've made the transistion to the OAP brigade without any problems. It sound as though 1948 is a good vintage. You told us the year but you did not tell us the make. Neither did you tell us the condition of the radiator. Any leaks?

1343749 2013-05-29 12:49:00 You told us the year but you did not tell us the make. Neither did you tell us the condition of the radiator. Any leaks?

The make is a New Zealand-built version of an English classic, with all the flaws, noises, rattles, bangs, leaks, drips and intermittent electrics of the genre. You can pretty much name any brand or model of that era and you'd not be far wrong. As for radiator condition, most types of this vintage suffer from the occasional dribble of variously coloured waters and a dash of sediment, but a small drip tray or absorbent mat should keep the garage carpet wholesome. If it gets too bad then parking on the street is always an option but most of the good spots are already spoken for by aged politicians and retired accountants.

Mrs T has made it quite clear that she plans to run me for as long and possible and has threatened me with the crusher if I cease to perform to expectations or fail to start on demand.

I'm off to grit-blast my plugs now, and I'll not be back until Tuesday, so Monday Laughs on PF1 will not commence for another week.

See you all on the other side(s).............

Cheers
