1342701 2013-05-23 07:32:00 Good they got caught.

Counsel for the company said its director, Masashi Umeoka, knew staff were "shill bidding" on $1 TradeMe reserve auctions, but did not know the scale of the behaviour or that it was illegal.:tui:

1342702 2013-05-23 08:23:00 Now if they can just make TM pay back all the horrendous fees they charge, real people may start using it again. rob_on_guitar (4196)
1342703 2013-05-23 08:36:00 Bet Trade Me are pissed off... those higher auction prices would have meant higher success fees! Agent_24 (57)
1342704 2013-05-23 08:43:00 Good thing is he seems to have taken it in his stride. He's paid up and he's not gone into hiding. As far as scammers go he's probably one of the more decent ones. The Error Guy (14052)
1342705 2013-05-23 09:37:00 Pleased to see that the car trader was caught and they paid up. Apparently this sort of thing is rife in Japan and the company's director did not realise that this was illegal in New Zealand.

Judge Ajit Singh reduced the original sentence by almost half, giving the company credits for its co-operation, change in systems since the shill bidding was uncovered, the personal circumstances of Mr Umeoka that the company had already paid reparations.

Surely a contradiction in terms, a decent scammer!
