1342613 2013-05-22 08:16:00 I have been moving some TV furniture around so unplugged all the xbox and ps3 etc and hadn't set it back up yet . Kids come home and decide to connect the kit back up so plugged in the HDMI cables from the xbox and sky into the panasonic plasma .

When I get home I find the following:

Sky works but nothing on xbox input channel . I subsequently start playing around with the connections to find that HDMI 2 ( out of 3 HDMI ports ) on telly doesn't now work at all - have tried skybox, ps3 and dvd player with a number of different cables as well on hdmi 2 and all result in a black screen . That's problem number 1 .

Xbox also now doesn't display on any of the HDMI inputs and have also tried different cables so I'm thinking the HDMI port on the xbox has been fried . Problem 2 .

They can't find the xbox avi lead ( Red, White and Yellow connections ) that offers an alternative connection method . Problem 3 . I need to buy a replacment . .

So . . . Is it possible that plugging in the hdmi lead while things have been powered on has shorted both the xbox and the TV HDMI ports? I can't check if its a handshaking issue as I currently cant connect it up other than using an HDMI connector but I'm guessing even if I buy the avi lead and get a picture etc its a physical HDMI port issue ?

Any pointers or tips that I may have missed?

Cheers

1342614 2013-05-22 08:34:00 Plugging in any device while its powered up has the potential to short circuit it. But generally they are OK.

What "may" work is to disconnect the power completely from everything. Leave them for a while, (15- 30 minutes) then plug in and power up again. Had this happen with the Telstra TV decoder once. ( swmbo was going ape - missing shortland street) lol Told her to go in the other lounge and watch it there -- Not impressed.

My Xbox 360 died some time ago, may still have the HD component lead if you want it?

1342616 2013-05-22 09:05:00 Cheers for the offer hopper. Birthday party in next couple of days with 5 kids staying over and 12 year old already got cold sweats about the xbox not working. I'll do a warehouse / dick smith runaround and pay a stupid price to get a cable to get it running then will figure out if its handshaking issues although I'd bet the dog it's fizzed out. 1342618 2013-05-22 11:13:00 If you have an HD TV don't bother with the yellow component plug. Quality is utter sh*t. Use the HD capable Green/blue/red one. I have a spare HD lead if you want it (in Wellington) The Error Guy (14052)

Single yellow one is composite not component.

1342620 2013-05-22 18:19:00 look in the tv menus and see if there is a "RESET" menu option to restore your tv to default apsattv (7406)

1342622 2013-05-23 00:59:00 Thanks everyone . Managed to scrounge an original xbox composite video lead ( picking up tonight) that I can plug into the side inputs on the telly which should at least give me a picture so I can check the xbox display settings in the menu etc etc . If I can't resurrect the HDMI connection/handshake then I will assume it's died and will get the box fixed . Also tried taking the TV back to original shipping state but no difference .

Luckily both are under extended warranty which I rarely ever buy but did this time around . . .
