1343137 2013-06-05 00:29:00 Sorry what?

Chorus is making VDSL wholesale the same price as ADSL on the 7th, apparently, and the availability of VDSL from more ISPs should increase following that, unless I misunderstood the whole thing (again)

Sounds too good to be true! Hopefully it isn't.

Sort of, it's not quite that simple.

They're also including an additional $5 a month for some sort of wiring charge, I'm still not quite clear on it, so that's more expensive. Add on to the fact that VDSL2 routers usually cost a lot more, ISP's in general give away routers for free so they've gotta recoup that cost. Then there's the fact that if you were getting the same sub-par speeds you get with Slingshot / Orcon at the moment on their ADSL plans while on a VDSL2 plan, you'd be furious, so they've got to have more bandwidth up their sleeves for peak times which also means the relative cost-per-GB is more (Because there's more bandwidth sitting around idle during non-peak times).

It's cheaper though, that's for sure, and it starts in two days... Which is great when I'm about to launch VDSL2 offerings myself ;)
300GB for Naked VDSL2, cost around $110 including a VoIP line? Sounds pretty cost-effective :D

1343140 2013-06-05 02:33:00 I guess we shall see what happens.

They always seem happy to give out "free" routers provided you go on a contract. Funny though, the price never drops after the contract ends and you've paid for the router!

1343141 2013-06-05 03:40:00 Yeh and the "$200 worth of router" only costs them like $25-$35, depending on the ISP and the router they're giving out. Chilling_Silence (9)
