1343332 2013-05-27 01:55:00 And so the demise of PC World NZ begins - cost cutting my arse. Closing the forum will not help the drain of money from PC World, its just an excuse because of these so called "new laws" where it is now against the law to speak the truth. If PC World wants to make money, start getting the Mag in order where people can actually gain some knowledge and get some sort of value out of it. Build the reputation of being a great "must buy" mag again and it will soon make money (that includes the online version).

Speaking of the Mag, what a VAST IMPROVEMENT this months addition is, fill of worthy reading, I still haven't got through it all yet, keep it up Editor!!

As for preapproved posts etc, yep, just another way to drive potential customers away and a complete waste of time and resources.

1343333 2013-05-27 01:56:00 The PressF1 section of the forums will still be live, but on Friday we'll be switching it over to a pre-moderated forum, as I've been informed by our lawyers that moderating forums ahead of time is Fairfax policy Oaky -- so if everything is going to be pre approved WHO is going to go through and allow threads & answers to be published ?

I can see that being a PITA - esp if someone wants to ask a legit question, and someone answers it, there can be a lengthy delay.

Don't mean any disrespect with this, but in the past some things from Fairfax that need approval / work dont exactly get done at a fast pace.

Prediction --- kiss PF1 goodbye due to lack of attendance with in 6 months. :(

It is going to be a pain, I'll admit that - I'm going to do my best to spend some time on it every day, and Jen and Jo are both sticking around (at least for now).

1343335 2013-05-27 01:59:00 Part of the reason we're making all these cuts is to prevent that from happening for as long as possible. It's not happening in the near future.

And you know that's true because they let you get new business cards :D

Don't spend too much time rearranging the deck chairs, spend some time on your CV.

So long folks it's been a distraction.

1343336 2013-05-27 02:00:00 This doesn't make a lot of sense.

Wouldn't the cost of paying someone to pre-approve every post outweigh the cost savings of not having to pay someone to moderate the chat forum?

No one's getting paid for either of those, and if we kept the chat section BOTH would need to be pre-approved as per Fairfax policy, not just Press F1. I am spending a few minutes a day approving stuff for the PF1 side and the existing volunteer mods will help as well.

Edit: So basically we've gone "How much can the existing staff handle, if everything needs to be pre-moderated?" Does that make more sense?
