1343117 2013-05-26 20:35:00 I have been with Telecom since those 'Jetsteam' days, only switched to Xnet briefly when Telecom was having the 'Go Large Plan' then returned to Telecom after about 1 year.

Haven't encountered any big issues, so far. Their helpdesk is great other than the foreign accent; I have no problem in understanding them; - just pay a little more attention and speak a little slower when talking to them.
Most importantly, their service is 24/7. They even reimbursed me for buying my own wireless router! Great servcie. Which provider allows you to do that?

I'm living about 2 km away from the 'roadside cabinet' and am getting ~ 14.45Mbps down and ~0.98 Mbps up.

This is probably the best I can get in NZ. :)

1343118 2013-05-26 22:24:00 Gmail - use their own SMTP server. Far better. smtp.gmail.com auth and SSL on, port 465 or 587. We've just changed to Telecom from Orcon for one of our lines, and the actual throughput speeds are much closer to the line speed than Orcon was.

Credit card payment isn't something I've thought of - I'd always use direct credit. Still though - they should offer that.

1343119 2013-05-27 05:10:00 I've had generally good service myself. Being in the industry I understand how tricky faults can be so I'm quite tolerant of that but I've only had one cable fault on my line in the 13 years I've been here, admittedly it took 2 attampts to be fixed but averaged out over the years it still seems pretty good. My biggest frustration is across most of the ISPs if not all, the routers they supply seem to be unreliable at best. I've been through 4 or 5 in the last 18 months to 2 years and have not been happy with any of them until this one which has been rock solid since Xmas. Of course now I'm thinking about VDSL and am worrying it'll start the hassles all over again. dugimodo (138)
1343120 2013-05-27 05:22:00 I have been with Telecom for approx. 10 years without big problems. Need to mention that our rural place, 20k's from a small town, is not in for any foreseeable network upgrades which is disappointing. Interestingly the fiber goes past a school which is only 300m away from us.
So overall pretty happy.

I can understand how you feel. That's why I talked to their helpdesk people very nicely and they re-imbursed me the full price (around $200.00)of the wireless router of my choice! What more can I expect?

1343122 2013-06-02 06:35:00 So are you syncing at 3mbps mzee or *attaining* 3mbps but still syncing around 12mbps?
The situation is even worse. No sign of Chorus, no phone call or txt. Today started at 2.87 Mbps, then shot up to 13 Mbps for about a minute, then zero for a few minutes, then up to 3.4 Mbps, then down to 1.3 Mbps. It has been doing this all day, makes earning a living online very difficult! HD.net appear to be doing something but I feel that they are not applying any pressure on Chorus. I am considering changing the ISP on condition that they can stabilize the connection. For over a year it has been stable and 10 to 12 Mbps, so I know that the line can do it. We had a power cut and they replaced some underground power cables, my guess is that our phone line was damaged. HD.Net confirm that the line is terrible. Line speeds at the moment are Up: 536 Kbps, Down: 3811 Kbps.

1343123 2013-06-02 09:23:00 And those are the speeds your router is showing you, yes? What router make and model? Chilling_Silence (9)
1343124 2013-06-02 10:18:00 The line speeds are from a new "Iskratel Innbox V50-U" router. It was also the same on an old DSE router and also a Cisco and a Netgear. I got the Innbox because I hope to change to VDSL next week. There may be a chance of the problem being eliminated by changing servers? mzee (3324)
1343125 2013-06-02 12:44:00 What do you mean by "changing servers"?

Never heard of that, so can't vouch for its reliability... Definitely get yourself a DrayTek DV2760

1343126 2013-06-02 23:02:00 I was told by HD that the VDSL would be on a different server circuit with new wiring etc. I can't see this making any difference as the problem started when they started to put in conduit for fibre in our street, damaging the power cables and causing a 2 week power cut. The power cables have since been replaced, but the phone line is still u/s. mzee (3324)
