| 1364129 | 2014-01-04 02:24:00 | Generally I find most AV reviews by resellers about as useful as magazine reviews. (was even told by a 15-16yr old toaster sales person the other day they sell Nortons because it was the only 100% effective AV available - lol) These reviews are more often biased because of the greater reseller profit margins and advertising profits! Personally I only use a free antivirus which I have researched & used 'in the wild' along with a good free malware and spybot program and cryptoprevent. Not being tied to the FBI, Fort Knox, CIA or even the Green Party I don't consider myself a target for hackers etc, etc. So having had 20+yrs of almost virus free computer use I'll stick to what I've got. Remember NO ANTIVIRUS, paid or free is completely 100% effective... make your own mind up! Magazine or other such reviews by companies who do it all the time can be fudged. Yes I'm a reseller of Nod32, BUT I dont make a single cent from any result I post. If you have a look right at the beginning I stated exactly how I ran scans: Made a copy of a known HDD that was badly infected. Installed a fresh copy of windows 7 on a PC. Attached as a slave drive the infected drive. Downloaded and installed Vipre 2014. Then installed Nod32 and gave the results I found. Its NOTHING anyone cant do, no tricks, nothing. IF anyone wanted to do the same then they could. The question is would they bother trying varies AV's, making an image of a infected drive so its the exact same test for each AV -- Answer = NO. When the "lab tests" are done they cant replicate real world usage, sure they put in known infections when testing but they dont leave them and use the PC for days or weeks to get more infected or have the. The whole point is the original article stated Vipre was the best -- Its clearly not. BTW, I did redo the test again from scratch using MSSE :groan: The infections actually killed MSSE during the firs pre scan, I had to reinstall it again, it also took 3 FULL scans before it finally said the drive was clean. Then moved MSSE and scanned with Nod. MSSE missed the two active infections just like Vipre had. Highlighted in the quote -- Always said that as well, even mentioned it right from the start, some work better than others though. Any results I get I post pictures of the result -- Notice mag reviews NEVER do only text results ;) |

I believe you are one reseller who does go above & beyond the call of duty and actually researches the AV products you sell & I DO have a very high regard for NOD32' s performance. I was referring to 95% of resellers from the likes of Dick Smith, Hardly Normal, The Wharehouse etc to small computer companies and repair shops who only sell the products based on the best profit margin when most times some free AV's are greatly superior. |

Funniest one I saw was once this guy had just purchased Norton, went to walk out the shop and the alarm goes off (the ones that are by the doors in case people try to flog something) SWMBO turned to me and said HA its warning that guy already its no good :devil :D As it so happened she said it a bit louder than she normally would talk as it was quite noisey in the shop, and at that time it went quiet (bummer) ------ He and the shop assistant weren't to impressed :D |

| 1364132 | 2014-01-22 21:47:00 | Magazine owners & editors WILL ENSURE that major advertisers are not rubbished in tests These major advertisers help pay wages & keep the mag in business . Do you really think Norton etc would put full page ad's in a mag that routinely rubbishes the product ?? I also have to wonder if some AV companies are gaming the system, with products designed to pass AV tests rather than in the real world effectiveness . As for real world, PC's with the generally recommended AV product here( That we also sell ), run Malwarebytes across it & significant malware detected . . . . . . this is real world, not a lab test, not just isolated cases . So paid AV missing malware that free products easily detect: draw you own conclusion |
