1363836 2014-01-03 06:54:00 If going into a RJ45 --- We got a Netgear Access point- wireless/soho-wireless/wn604. (www.netgear.com) Its out in the workshop, depending on what device is being used the range is not to bad roughly 40Mtrs away, its in the workshop - Lounge. We have a older TP link Access point in the lounge to get 100% range as well. wainuitech (129)

Cool thanks. I was searching for stuff online but extenders and is it some RJ45 / wireless extenders they of course give you the 4x RJ45 ports, can that be used as an input too? Meaning I can connect the router to this extender and use the other 3 ports for computers (if I have them).

What's the difference from extenders to WAP? Do any of them require static IP setting up ...?

40m through walls? We need to talk .

1363839 2014-01-03 10:21:00 40m through walls? We need to talk. A LOT has to do with the devices, and building materials /insulation of the place. some have better capabilities /range than others. My laptop wont pick up much past 15 Mtrs through a wall, but the Android Tablet is much better. Sometimes, depending on the customers laptop, more modem laptops will pick up several wireless connections of the neighbors that could be connected to, the people either side of our place dont have the internet, let alone wireless. So the connections are at least two properties away.

I was at a persons place late last year, their iPad picked up both their connections, my Android picked up 4 ( from memory) one being their neighbors (which the iPad couldn't detect) as I had set up a wireless access point as described above in their home ( they know one another), I knew it was theirs as its got a SSID Name they wanted ;)

1363840 2014-01-03 11:19:00 I'd still suggest the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND and flash Gargoyle for them. It's easy as to do... It's great hardware, and there's less setup involved doing that, than there would be if you were trying to use half the repeater models out there. Chilling_Silence (9)

That's a router?

They already have a router in the garage where the chorus guys installed the fiber optic ONT . 5 network cables from the house leads to the garage .
So me thinks add a switch . At the moment only one network cable is connected .
And pop a WAP in the lounge b/c the wireless router (Fritzbox) in the garage doesn't go far enough to the rest of the house .
Still a router or a WAP?
