"Interestingly, Fairfax allegedly refuted requests from Karam’s lawyers to remove “vitriolic, extremely offensive” defamatory comments from their message boards on the basis that they “encourage the discussion of genuinely held opinions of relevance to the public”. An interesting test of press freedom, honest opinion and the like is in the works, it seems." Seems like Fairfax weren't concerned. Fazackerly, but it seems Fairfax and/or the ex-editor were concerned about innocuous comments on PCW Chat, it doesn't square up at all. |

It will however reduce the volume of material to be preview by mods by about two thirds. So I see no real savings, just reduced liabilities in the event of slander or having to defend any other similar or frivilous allegation... so a Manager afraid of a Lawyer done it to us! |

Technically, you are probably correct, but in reality I doubt many, or any, of the Fairfax bosses over half way up the ladder have ever heard of the PC Worlds Chat Forum let alone manage it. Therefore, it can only be that the direction that "New Zealand PCWorld" and its subsidiary’s have taken is orchestrated locally with the blame directed elsewhere. ;) |
