1342985 2013-05-24 08:45:00 I bought a Falcon in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. It was the first year of production (1960) from Canada. It had only done 18000 miles. It had a small 6 cylinder OHV motor of 1800cc and did 30 mpg on a trip. It would travel at 70 mph quite happily for hours on end. I went from Kenya to Zambia, and then to Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) and sold it to a farmer there. Bought a new Datsun 1300 Ute for the equivalent of $1400, which carried my belongings to Durban where it was shipped to Auckland. I sold it to Farmers Trading for a very good price. mzee (3324)

Not only a living is owed, those Aussies have still got my lawnmower :(

1342987 2013-05-24 20:57:00 Currently have a BF XR6 T and have done over 80,000 km and would buy another

After owning a couple of Maxima's(still own one) and Telstar over the years maintenance under warranty the Maxima's were more expensive though Dealer charges

The Falcon averages 10.7 L/per 100k over a 2 year period and will do 9 L/100k on a trip(the FG will achieve 8.5 doing the same

The death of the Falcon/Territory was cast a decade ago with the tightening of emission standards with the 4 litre 16 being a cast iron block, the current engine and ZF auto is bullet proof and will be talked about in years to come

Looking at updating sometime to the F6 :devil

While you're about it, what about bringing back that appalling little Standard 8 (Dad's first car purchased with heaps of "overseas funds"). If I recall correctly, it only had 2 doors, and the boot didn't open at all.

On further reflection, don't even think about it

Also, don't sit in the middle of the back seat. The tubular support there is distinctly uncomfortable after very little travel.

1342992 2013-05-25 05:04:00 But...seems a bit timely the demise of the Falcon, because announced a few weeks back - the Ford Escort is returning (www.caranddriver.com), initially in China then rumoured for Europe. (www.autoexpress.co.uk) Never mind NZ, as always.

The 1970s Escort I remember here was a terrible car. Seemed to be made of left overs..
