2013-05-27 10:29:00 | Mightn't matter to you, but it matters to me if Im considering registering a domain name and setting up a forum board where people here can be a community and talk and get close to instant help for their pc issues by people with 100s of combined years of knowledge and experience . Dont care about the advert impressions or whats made out of them, its not about the money so much as providing people here with a service but I only have a limited amount of monthly bandwidth which is why I was asking . I know very well the closing of the chat isnt to do with hosting costs, its just being used as part of the excuse to try and justify it . Sad part is that they are silly enough to think that getting rid of chat and pre-approving posts that they are going to retain all the members and cut the work down for moderators . Where ever these people end up, do you really think they will come back here for help or ask for it where they are with thier friends . The chat is a big part of what keeps this community together, people have built up trust and friendships that go back years - not that fairfax care, because that doesnt make them enough dollars . Cant speak for anyone else, but you got my backing mate . The pre approving posts doesn't work - the ones in charge get side tracked and things dont get done . I know that from personal experience -- As I mentioned earlier on, I admin a Facebook site, when it was first created I set it exactly how its going to be here -- that lasted all of 3 days, the amount of work to pre approve posts was over whelming, it could have been a full time 24 hour job - it was quicker after people joined ( which have to be approved by a admin), then moderate/remove offending posts as they appeared . Rules are set, NO BS / warnings, any post that doesn't apply gets dumped as per the rules . Simply put Fairfax are being run by lawyers .

2013-05-27 10:35:00 | i will go as far to say the chat forum is the busier of the two. Chat is probably the only reason half the members are still active... I suppose Fairfax will have learned there lesson when this place is a ghost town. Hoping Ian can come up with something  Hell, I'd chip in a dollar or two if it was going to help anything happen. *thinks of imagef1*

No good if you want to comment at night Why would you want to? Stuff is run by a bunch of clowns who don't understand the concept of journalism or the English language. Of course it doesn't look like the Herald does any more either, though... |

2013-05-27 10:49:00 | stuff . co . nz commenting as been on pre approved for a while now . No good if you want to comment at night Stuff is slightly different though . It not a place where someone asks for help, and various people answer . The amount of replies are tiny in comparison to here . Also whats going to happen here on weekends and public holidays?? Is it going to be closed for the weekend ? ;)

2013-05-27 10:49:00 | Sorry goodiesguy but your forum hurts my eyes :( What's the host like you're on? Looks like a free one? Happy to offer up a real server to host the new forum on if there is any interest.... Edit: just read Iantech's post properly. Do you have somewhere decent to host?
