243529 2004-06-11 20:19:00 I cant seem to open Device manager,
Either from a right click on My Computer or from the Control Panel. When accessing Device Manager the Device manager window flashes on the screen for a split second then disappears Also the same thing happens when trying to run MMC from a command prompt Ihave the latest Virus Signatures and can find nothing weird

Is there something I may have missed
Thanks in advance...

243530 2004-06-11 21:26:00 Reinstall windows fromt he cd. If you have the same version just select upgrade; it wont delete any of your files.

Just to be safe, back up your documents though.

243531 2004-06-12 04:55:00 before you go reinstalling windoze...........try a antivirus scan with a different scanner...............NO antivirus scanner is perfect and something may be missed on occasion so its always a good idea to have backup scan available ............good one here >>>> http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ drcspy (146)
243532 2004-06-12 05:09:00 Do other system programs work?

Are you able toi run msconfig for example?

I used a reg entry to fix a comp the other day that was displaying much the same syptoms....caused by a virus.

243533 2004-06-12 06:31:00 this may also help:

1. goto control panel/internet options.
2. Click the Advanced tab.
3. Under Browsing, click to clear the Enable third-party browser
extensions (requires restart) check box.
4. Restart Internet Explorer.

243534 2004-06-12 09:38:00 As Metla says, check to see whether other things are working correctly as well . Just because you have the latest virus updates does not always mean your computer is completely clean .

I came across a computer the other day on which a trojan had disabled Norton Anti-Virus, the firewall, etc etc so the owners were completely unaware that nothing was protecting them .

Can you get to the Trend Micro virus checking site and do a scan?

See if you can install Adaware, Spybot, etc . If they display the same symptoms (disappearing in a flash) then you will definitely be infected with something nasty .

Let us know how you get on .

243535 2004-06-12 09:42:00 Yeah, management console is a pretty integral part of windows, i reckon, something serious musta gone down. Growly (6)
