243620 2004-06-11 03:14:00 Hi,
I recently corrupted a program that is no longer downloadable off the net, but is on a CD - this program was re-installed from the CD onto my h/d after I had a complete virgin re install of XP.
I somehow corrupted that and now when we come to re install it says"over write existing files,?" click "yes" and it comes uo with cannot install as one of the files is in use"
I have run search after search - found nothing and yet I keep getting refusal to complete the re install because of the existing files.
I have copied, meticulously, every detail of the missing, and/or "in use" files and nothing shows
I want to eliminate everything to do with this program and start afresh
What can I do please?

243621 2004-06-11 03:21:00 add-remove programs?

Or does it not show up in there?

Otherwise disable it from startup so its not running and you should have some luck, unless its intergrated itself and is considered one of the system fiiles.

Could try installing it in safe mode.

Whats the name of the program?

243623 2004-06-11 04:22:00 seems like soem part of what you are installing is already in use by the sytsem .......perhaps as often happens with programs it's trying to modify some system file that is already 'open' in the background........do this.........goto safe mode and try installing the prog there.......to get there tap F8 repeatadly right from when you start the puter......then when you get to the black dos screen use the arrow keys to get to 'safe mode' listing then hit enter.........you are runnin xp so your cdrom should work ok in safe mode it wont with older versions of windows..... drcspy (146)
243624 2004-06-12 00:39:00 Hi Johnboy - and the rest.

Well done, I went to your site - downloaded and used the program to locate seven files which no amount of searching could locate before.-- and now I have my delinquent program re installed
I have a registered,"regcleanersupreme" and though it cleaned up a lot, did not find these.
I am not sure whether to keep the program ( it did not install), on the h/d but if it does not run out of an "age/tial, period" I will keep it for the future- hopefully that will not happen again
