243438 2004-06-11 03:03:00 Hi. I've just purchased a serial trackball device that i really want to get working, perferably in addition to my USB mouse.

With my laptop, i got the trackpad and the usb mouse working at the same time, so it shouldn't be a problem.

It didn't come with any drivers. When i goto the mouse options from the control panel, thge mouse is not listed under the hardware tab (occasionly it is).

However there is a matching driver with it's own tab. www.applepics.com
Problem is that while you can change these settings they seem to always revert to being disabled when you close the window.

Bios is enabled, device is not showing up in device manager, but is detected by Add new hardware wizard.

Any help greatly apprciated.

243439 2004-06-11 03:13:00 Try doing it without the USB mouse plugged in first. It would be very easy for programmers to decide that "noone would ever need more than two mouse devices" :D Graham L (2)
243440 2004-06-11 03:29:00 I've tried that, but no cigar.

I might try disabling the USB mouse in the BIOS and see if that improves things.

Could someone point me toward a generia serial 2button mouse driver ?

I've had no luck googling.

243441 2004-06-11 03:47:00 That doesn't work either :(

The device is a Phillips Speechmic with trackball.

Its kinda like a remote for your computer except it connects with a long serial cord.

It's got a mic and speaker built in. I really want to get it running for watching movies, ect.

243442 2004-06-11 03:58:00 I wonder if you have Windows XP. ;-)

The first link Googler gave to "philips speechmic" says the Speecmmic Pro (serial) works with 95/98/2k/NT4 . One a bit further down says the USB model works with XP.
