Everybody has different opinions and are entitled to them.
Personally I think the fuji under discussion has an extemely macho look versus the soft feminine style of the sony. :-) :-)

;)
Until/if the Hanimex -Fuji changeover settles a bit, repair service is a bit ethereal just now :(

243899 2004-06-13 06:15:00 Today we went to camera house in Westfield Riccarton, and say the Canon PowerShot A75. It comes with a 128mb card free, so is it good?

BTW, also got an optical mouse today. On the requirements it says it needs 233mhz
XP, ME, 2k or 98
3.5" floppy dickette drive (no that isn't that a typo :p)

How much was the Canon PowerShot A75? If I remember correctly, Canon Powershot series won the Digital Camera award from PCWorld last year ( ? )

Canon PowerShot's are excellent "bang for your buck" camera's. They are pretty much the only camera I can consistently recommend.

My parents who are photography novices took a Canon A40 (~$650 at time of purchase) camera with them for a tramping trip, along with their friends Sony CyberShot which they paid $1500+ for less than 3 months ago.

The Canon photos were consistently crisper and clearer than the Sony which was almost 3 times the price.

I think you'll be very happy with the Canon.

243902 2004-06-13 08:11:00 Users of Sony/Canon or at least seen them go seem to suggest the Canons being better. But I still don't understand why Sony has the majority of the market... I bet the salesman don't even own a digital camera. They always seemed to recommend the Sonys. Or maybe they make more profit....? I don't know.... Would be interesting to find out though :) ~~~~~ s y ~~~~~ (2054)

$599- comes with Camera, AV cable (I think), USB cable, AC adaptor, Carry Bag (I think) and 128mb memory card

243904 2004-06-13 10:24:00 Not a bad deal for the A75 and 128mb card is good . I have a DSE 64mb card which I find is plenty. You will still need rechargable NiCd batteries and charger - about $80. The Bond and Bond price suggests you'd get everything for about $600. That makes Camera House on the expensive side. Winston001 (3612)
243905 2004-06-13 10:26:00 The A75 deal is extremely good with the 128MB card thrown in . I find it a little non-intuitive to use and rather on the big side for a compact but as others have said, the results are very good and I have no doubt that if it were the only camera you were using, you would get used to the feel of it quite quickly .

It'll certainly beat the bejabbers out of the Sony in terms of features and since you would almost certainly have to buy a bigger card than most cameras come with, getting the 128MB is equivalent to $100 discount .

I personally favour the use of several sets of NiMH AA size batteries over the charge in-camera batteries because you can always pick up a set of batteries on the run if you haven't had time to do a recharge or had access to a power source . I usually carry a spare set of e2 batteries which will run the camera as well as a spare set of charged NiMH .

Either way, you would be well advised to add the cost of a Powerhaus charger & batteries ($79 . 95 from Camera House) to your purchase . This make will do a recharge from your car as well as the mains and comes with 4x2300mAH Batteries . Most other charges are mains only and smaller capacity batteries .
