243684 2004-06-14 09:38:00 There are still some items that need removing:

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310} - (no file)

R3 - URLSearchHook: WebSearch Class - {9368D063-44BE-49B9-BD14-BB9663FD38FC} - C:\Program Files\scbar\v2\scbar . dll

O14 - IERESET . INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www . xtra . co . nz <<<--I am not sure about this . You can remove it and if there are problems later then you can restore from the HJT backup .

Also, those O16 entries with "Yahoo" and "games" in their URLS could go if the computer is not used for playing online darts games, etc .

One other thing - it appears that you may have run HJT from the file downloaded onto the desktop . As I said before, it needs to be in its own folder (preferably in Program Files) otherwise you won't be able to restore the backup if necessary .

243685 2004-06-14 09:53:00 Susan, I did make a folder for it. I made a folder called hijack this, in a folder I use in his puter for things like spybot, adaware etc, all the things he doesn't usually touch. I will move it when I go back in tomorrow, but it has got a lot of backup files in it. Thanks for pointing out the extras that I have to get rid of. Cheers supergran (108)
243686 2004-06-14 10:04:00 That's good to hear, Supergran, you are doing well . :-)

The reason I was concerned is because of this entry:
C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Unused Desktop Shortcuts\hijack\HijackThis . exe

From this it appears not to have been run from Program Files but from a folder on the Desktop . I have just tested my own and mine displays the folder from where the program is run .

If you have lots of backup files in there it should be OK but my understanding is that it is better in its own folder in Program Files that's all . :-)

243687 2004-06-14 10:54:00 Susan, sorry, yes, I did make the folder, and yes, it is in where it said, unused folder on desktop. I have made a folder in there for my stuff to fix his puter, and that is where I put the folder for Hijack. Dah, sorry for not following instructions. I will move it tomorrow into another folder that I will make, and have it in the right place. Xp is still strange, so I put folders where I know I can find them. LOL supergran (108)
243688 2004-06-14 11:44:00 I would recommend that you leave the folder where it is for this particular job and just remember to put it into Program Files next time .

If you move it now and later need to restore a HJT backup because of problems then things could get rather tricky .

After you have finished cleaning it would pay to leave the folder where it is for a few weeks just to make sure everything works OK .
