244181 2004-06-13 22:10:00 If I want to assert my copyright to a document, is it sufficient to put "Copyright © Tony Bacon 2004" on it, or is something else required? tbacon_nz (865)
244182 2004-06-13 22:18:00 Yes, that's all you need. As the creator of a document or work you have immediate copyright on that work for the moment of it's creation. All you are doing is advertising to the world that you created it and therefore own the copyright. You do not need to file any legal documents or notify any register, unlike patents or trademarks. 244183 2004-06-13 22:23:00 Agreed although this is outside my field. The only limitation is that if you produce a document for an employer or under a contract for someone else, then they own the copyright because that is what they buy with your work.

For example, you'll find newspaper articles are copyrighted to the paper, not to the reporter who did the writing.

Hope this helps.
