I don't know who decided that using capital letters was deemed "shouting" as such. I do know that FidoNet which is still in existence used the caps to indicate "shouting". They also used the colon, hyphen and the right bracket to indicate a smile. Hence your smilies and emoticons today for example.

I might add that Fidonet was in existence before the World Wide Web as we know it.

I usually start an Email with G'day Fred ( or whomever ) if I know them.

Sometimes these days you are sending an Email to sales@xyz.co.nz and while typing you have no idea whether you are sending the Email to Fred or Sara Nurk at zyx.com maybe.

Now Growly. Please take a deep breath. I'm in my 4th decade. I couldn't see what your point was at all. Quite a lot of others couldn't either. That doesn't make it invalid - you just needed to express the point more clearly.

I don't find "hey" disrespectful in the context used although I wouldn't use it. Different generation.

I do think courtesy is not fully understood or taught today. Politeness is the oil which allows us to rub along in a crowded and complex world without losing our tempers. Respect other people and you'll earn respect. Chill is a very good example of a young person who is universally respected - well, perhaps we should ask his boss! :D

Incidentally the use of upper-case as shouting has been understood since about 1992.

244134 2004-06-14 10:34:00 Before this gets too far...

Some people can't read.

I may have different humour.

Twice now I've tried to explain my self, but people just seem to ignore them and post to me as if I have no idea what I am doing.

You know what? I don't care. I tried. I failed. I'm over it.

It appears that a simple, innocent post in this forum can cause so much anger and frustration that I would simply have to leave.

To everyone who posted after my last one, I ask you to go back and READ. I'm sure you'll see both parts of the argument that way, without causing me much hassle.

But I can guarantee you that the whole response to my post was alot more hassle than that email. And my life isnt crumbling because someone replied in caps, <expletive>, the level of attention here is shocking!

Can a moderator please lock this forum? Good and bad have mixed with clueless. (That's not to say I am not clueless either, before you start on that track....)

244135 2004-06-14 10:35:00 What gets me the most is the fact, that, after all your whingeing about not being able to locate your desired mother board, when you finally do locate one,the best you can do is berate the very person who has one.
Wierd indeed.
And another point,I never knew you were a foreigner until you mentioned it,so you can get off that bike.
If only I knew what a caps was.

244136 2004-06-14 10:37:00 I'd like to bring, furthermore, to everyone's attention, the cheesy grinned smily emoticon that is situated at the very end of my post.

To my young, no quite cool, naive, arrogant and above all pathetic way of thinking, this round the whole thing of as - "Hahahaha, what a funny event."

It is now clear that in the future I should simple shut the <expletive> up, and not post.

Thanks everyone, it's been fun.

Good night.

244137 2004-06-14 10:44:00 EMAIL IS AN INFORMAL COMMUNICATION

Actually, Growly sent a "business" email, and yes, I would have said DEAR and YOURS SINCERELY as common business curtesy

244140 2004-06-14 11:12:00 Don't worry, I'm still here. (No wait, worry...)

Hah! You expect me to write sincerely on 10 emails in quick succession while attempting to do homework! Bahah!

We need a group hug - unless that's classed as sexual harasment.
