:D

244122 2004-06-14 08:43:00 Ok, I accept that we have a generational gap here, but is one thing to say Hey, to your friends and colleagues, and another when addressing a perfect stranger. To my ear 'Hey' and 'Hi' mean two different things.

'Hi' to me says hello, 'Hey' to my ear is the same as 'Oi, I want your attention', in a rather impolite way.

Stay tuned for the next HTOTW#21 to read what the older Victorian and Edwardian generations were saying about the disgusting behaviour of the wild jazz-age younger generation of the 1920s :)

244123 2004-06-14 09:10:00 Oh c'mon guys!!!

Let's carry the example of shouting and not on to prove a point:

I DIDN'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY . I KNOW WHY THE GUY DID IT . IT WAS A FUNNY THING . I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY . I HONESTLY DO NOT CARE AT ALL WHAT SOME SILLY AUSTRALIAN SITTING BEHIND IS SILLY COMPUTER TYPES . I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS AN EXAMPLE OF SALESPEOPLE AT THEIR WORST .

BUT NO, SOME OF YOU HAVE TO PICK THE STUPIDEST THINGS UP . YOU HAVE TO CALL ME IMMATURE (not you chill, you're cool), YOU HAVE TO INSULT ME INTELLIGENCE, YOU HAVE TO THINK THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY HE DID THIS, YOU THINK THAT I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS AS THOUGH I THINK THAT IT WAS UNJUSTIFIED . OFCOURSE HE WAS JUSTIFIED, OFCOURSE MY LAST EMAIL DIDN'T DIGNIFY A REPLY . . . I DON'T CARE I JUST THOUGHT THAT IT WAS HILARIOUS, CONSIDERING I'D NEVER SEEN A SALES REP GET ANGRY - MOST OF YOU CAN'T SEEM TO GRASP SIMPLE, INNOCENT HUMOUR - YOU JUST HAVE TO PICK A FIGHT .

And if anyone tells me that they've never addressed someone with a "hey", in a polite way, then I pity them - maybe you'd rather that in a rush, i took the time to type "greetings and salutations oh all mighty and all powerful salesman of the utmost importance and respectable dignity, but i was just wondering if you stocked . . . "

I think not .

Some people on this forum need to reassess (I'm serious) why they are here . Is it because you have nothing better to do than to criticise? Is it because you enjoy shutting people and their ideas down? I thought better! C'MON!!!!!

Terry, I understand that you don't like "Hey", but there is infact a difference between "HEY!" and "Hey," . Ever heard of "hey there,"?

PS . Lohsing, you're probably right, I guess I can blame this on my being a foreigner ness . . . . you get the picture anyway .

Oh and once again, this doesn't affect my life much at all, it just shocks me, the response i get . . .

The moderators are right, there is way too much negativity going down (*Cue someone blaming me for everything* *Cue someone else doing just to be funny*)

244124 2004-06-14 09:24:00 I agree with TP . It is just downright arrogent to address a complete stranger totally informally whatever you do with your mates or on ICQ, PF1, etc . I don't address any of my clients with hey, in person or by email . Hi is ok, once a relationship has been established but, it's not for everybody .

kiki, you expect everyone to conform to your standards, sorry life isn't so simple, isn't just black or white . You need to adjust for the comapany and the occasion . In fact you contradicte youself to an exent when you claim the world has moved on, implying others adhere to outdated, rigid standards . Hmm, a little rigid I would have thought, I wish you all the success in life and that you attain great old age ;) .

As for Growly's query . A little more info with it would have gone a long way but neither would I expect such blunt replies from a company wanting a long term future in a service industry . A simple yes we can supply with a request for more info would have sufficed .

3 cents woth but I'm feeling generous tonght .

244125 2004-06-14 09:42:00 YES WE STILL KEEP THE ITEM IN STOCK.
THANKS

Hmmmm

Life's pretty sad when the world start collapsing around you because someone type a reply in CAPS to you.

Now, if they had reply something along the line of Please Sod off you so and so we don't need your business, then perhaps I would have taken a different line.

TBH - I just don't see what the problem is. I have seen my share of people typing in caps. Sometimes they just don't know, as INSANE as that would seem, even IT savvy people slip up once in a while.

244126 2004-06-14 09:44:00 And we can't have a good OT discussion without fighting why? Megaman (344)
244127 2004-06-14 09:55:00 Go back and read your original post. I read this and really could not understand why it was posted in the first place.

Your post to me came across as a complaint about service.

If the person was justified in doing what the person was doing then why post here on this?

You go further in a way. You know for a fact that the Salesperson was a HE rather than a SHE. This via Email. How do you know this?

I won't bother having a battle of wits with an unarmed person.

Bye.

Depends on you definition of fighting. I would call it a rigorous discussion, a fine line I admit but what do you really expect the response to be. Even if unintentionally, the original post is going to get opposing opinions, some people express those views a little more forcefully or with a bit more bite than others, it's only natural. No bad language yet which has got to be a positive ;) although some of the subject matter has got close to the bone

244129 2004-06-14 10:10:00 I've tried staying out of this argument, but I must jump in because I can't help it anymore.

I understand that the original intention of the post was to alert fellow PressF1ers to the poor quality service from this company. Yes, typing in caps wasn't probably the best thing for the particular person to do, but in saying that, it's part of life, and we just have to put up with it.

Sometimes it's best to make life easier for yourself. Type a generic email, asking every question you want to ask the salesperson in one hit. Then copy/paste it and send to all companies (or use mail merge or similar). That way you don't have to re-type all your questions, and you will have asked everything in one go, saving both your time, and the salesperson's time.

244130 2004-06-14 10:13:00 What was the whole point of the post? Growly, you mention that fact that you thought it was funny to post 'random' comments across a few (ok, two or three, not lots, but...) It seems to me that you share different humour to many of us. What is funny about those emails? I don't understand. Mods need to be called.... before this goes into another argument. ~~~~~ s y ~~~~~ (2054)
