| 244645 | 2004-06-15 01:21:00 | Hi Im trying to plot a wave length u shape curve using microsoft excel The left and right vertical axis will go up by 5 The first line from the vertical axis will start at 20 then drops down to the middle of the horizontal axis until it reaches 6 on the vertical axis and goes back up to 20 on the right hand vertical axis making it a u shape curve graph Does anybody know how you can do this using microsoft excel? |

| 244646 | 2004-06-15 02:45:00 | There are several ways to do this but a quick way of doing this without having to plot a lot of points is to set up a small data grid in excel as follows: Set cells A1 = 1 A2 = 2 A3 = 3 as your x values Set cells B1 = 20 B2 = 6 B3 = 20 as your y values Highlight these six cells (left click and hold the mouse button down on the first cell A1 and drag down to cell B3). Goto the menu and select Insert -> Chart Select XY scatter (the default one without the connected lines) and go through the wizard if you want to add titles etc (Note you can make these changes later) or just press finish. The chart will display with three points. To add your curve to these points, goto the menu and select Chart -> Add trendline. Choose polynomial type of order 2 and select ok. You will now have your U shaped graph which you can further modify by changing backgrounds, markers, adding titles etc. If you need to make the U more pronounced you can add more values and choose a higher order polynomial as your trend type (e.g x=1.5, y=8 and x=2.5 and y=8 and set the polynomial to 5). Hope this helps. Cheers Dave |

In the dialog box that comes up select cells c1 to c3 and click ok. Select the new series by clicking on one of the new points and then goto the menu chart -> add trendline and select polynomial type 2 again. You should have two U shaped curves. Dave |
