| 244957 | 2004-06-16 00:08:00 | Lately I've ben getting automated responses from mailer-daemons that emails I have purportedly sent could not reach their destination. The latest one included the text of the message I was supposed to have sent - it was in German, with the subject heading "Libanesen in Berlin". I've checked Outlook, and no such email was ever sent. I guess that either a program on my computer is sending this stuff, or someone has my email password and is sending it from another computer. The question is, how do I work out what's happening, and how do I fix it?I'm running ZoneAlarm, AVG Antivirus, and Spybot. Any thoughts? Lizard |

Just delete those bounced messages and german emails and keep your AVG definition files updated. Other than that, your security looks good. |

Yes, use of the search function is recommended to find answers but Id hate this to turn into the kind of place where people asking for help were continually harangued to use the search function. A gentle reminder to do so is all thats required. | Biggles (121) | ||

| 244962 | 2004-06-16 00:55:00 | ahhh the gentle reminder.. in corporate IT lingo "gentle reminder" is a bad euphimism for "you stuffed up and I'm going to harrass you about it" Peer criticism is great fun for office politics ;) |

| 244963 | 2004-06-16 01:35:00 | Would it help if this post or the FAQ was made a sticky post for a while. As mentioned this is coming up nearly every day and what is annoying is the fact that it is not new members posting but members who have been around for a long time so either they do not read any posts at all or they have a very short memory. If it was on the top of the list it may help them to see current recurring problems. Or better still have a link to something like a Current Issues list about problems that have been posted several times in a specific period or even have the information directly on the website in view at all times. One other that comes to mind that has died down a bit now was the OE blocked attachments problem and this would also have benefited by having the information more readily available. |

Good point but I'd like to say that people who have been around for a long time do not necessarily have the same level of expertise or experience . Also, for some, what later become well-thrashed (to the point of tedium) issues are at the beginning too far over our heads to even delve into . So as your level improves, so you come across things that have become very familiar to others . I read much more than I post but I really only get to grips with things when I try them myself ( like Knoppix, which I haven't done yet but have read lots,) so then we come back posting about things you think have been covered a million times but not for the peculiarities each may experience . Everybody's gotta learn and a good idea to make this sticky for a while . :) |
