244783 2004-06-15 04:55:00 Just downloaded AVG, because my NAV subscription was about to expire. Download went fine, but when trying to install it (by clicking on it, then clicking setup), it tries to install Panorama 32 - that wallpaper changing programme...

Argh - what's gone wrong here???

244784 2004-06-15 05:02:00 Sounds odd. You're sure you have the proper version of AVG? Susan B (19)

Make sure you are running the exe file on your local computer & not on a network

If that does not help try downloading it again http://www.grisoft.com/

244786 2004-06-15 05:17:00 Yep am pretty sure it's the correct version, its from the grisoft website.

How do I check I am running the exe file on my local computer, not the network (whatever that means!)?

244788 2004-06-15 05:29:00 Caffy - Snap!

My Norton just expired too and I'm currently waiting for the Grisoft e-mail to do the download. I'll be interested to see how you get on.

Oh, and Stu means - are you connected to a network of other computers? If so, it is possible that AVG is loading over the network onto other computers. This is a no-no. Very bad form. Go to the back of the class. :D

244789 2004-06-15 05:34:00 Ah, am not connected to any other computers, so i am assuming it's been installed into the correct place :P caffy (2665)
244790 2004-06-15 05:51:00 Seems unusual that running the AVG setup executable would result in the running of another program. In fact sound suspiciouly like the work of a virus.

Suggest you download AVG again into a folder on your hard drive eg C:\InstallProgs and run it again.

If that fails, do a scan with something like ad-aware to see if there are some rogue process going in the background. http://www.lavasoft.de

244791 2004-06-15 08:28:00 You could try using Avast Home Edition instead?

I used to have AVG but found Avast has a lot more features . The virus database and program itself are updated automatically every time you're on the net . This is a very good anti virus program for a freebie!

This from the site:

"avast! 4 Home Edition is a full-featured antivirus package designed exclusively for home users . New version of avast! antivirus kernel features outstanding detection abilities, together with high performance . You can expect 100% detection of In-the-Wild viruses (the ones what are really spreading amongst people) and very good detection of Trojan horses, all that with only a minimum number of false alarms . A simple user interface is used to start on-demand scanning, work with the results, change various options etc . Basic resident protection settings can be modified . "

Might be worth a look? Check it out @ . avast . com/i_idt_153 . html" target="_blank">www . avast . com

There would hardly be any anti-virus program that didn't have that feature.
>You can expect 100% detection of In-the-Wild viruses
Sounds too good to be true. Nod32 has the reputation of being the best anti-virus program although you have to pay for it.
