I replaced the battery in my car and my stereo ceased to work, its a blaupunkt thingie, and displays "safe" whenever I turn it on, I rang the original dealership, who sold it got the radio code, but I have no idea how to input it

any help would be much appreciated

244715 2004-06-15 03:45:00 I am sure if you give the dealership another phone call they'll be happy to help you out :) SKT174 (1319)
244716 2004-06-15 03:50:00 ring the original dealership again and ask? robsonde (120)
244717 2004-06-15 04:17:00 Yes i was going to do that,
but it's a toll call,
and i did have an online site bookmarked with the procedure in it, but as my O/S bit the dust, and needed a reinstall I lost the link.

The irony is that just after posting this message I found the website again, (I spent 1/2 an hour looking before posting the message, and a minute afterwards, Grrrr it's a conspiracy)

244718 2004-06-15 04:32:00 Seeing as you got on the internet to post here, they've got this online thing called ... Google...

www.blaupunkt.co.uk

www.coffeysound.com

www.google.com

That should get you started.

244720 2004-06-15 06:22:00 I was recently wondering why the manufacturers are starting to favour detachable faceplates over security coding, but I guess this situation is a good example of why. Alasta (1420)
244721 2004-06-16 07:28:00 Yes Alasta you would be correct . The unlock code system can be a hassle . I've had a similar problem with my Alpine car stereo, & was hoping to find a solution on this thread .

Due to many car battery problems in recent years, requiring a battery disconnection, I needed to input the 5 digit unlock code to activate the radio . It worked previously, but last week no way! Tried it many times but no luck . Googled, searched, but no clues .

The auto electrican didn't know, but offered to check with Alpine . The information was interesting, but a little alarming . There was an indicator led flashing on the stereo, & we both assumed the stereo was 'powered' . But not so . The led is a separate circuit . The advice was to check the main 12v line fuse to the radio, & if that was intact, then the stereo was a "throw away" .

Access to the fuse was not easy . The auto electrican needed to dismantle dash panels to remove the stereo . I've had an anxious day awaiting the fuse verdict .

But it is good news . It needed a new fuse, & the unlock code worked . Possibly the fuse blew due to the other recent problems with the alternator & voltage regulator .

Alpine said they have discontinued this type of security coding, as Alasta has mentioned .

I hope this information may be of some help for anyone with similar problems .
