245348 2004-06-17 00:41:00 I’ve just formatted and reloaded all the programmes on a friend’s computer but have come up with the Dial-Up Connection Box on start-up. Yes, the desktop icons come up and then, bingo, the Dial-Up Connection Box. This has never happened to me previously in numerous re-installations. The only thing I can think I’ve done different is use Microsoft’s security update CD to install updates.

I’ve looked in the start-up folder and msconfig without spotting anything obvious calling up the connection. I think we can rule out spyware etc. as we haven’t been on the Internet since the format. The only “suspect” I have is the updated version of Windows Media Player installed from the update disk.

Any suggestions anyone?

OS Win98SE, MS Office, SystemWorks, WMP Ver9.

Jim's suggestion seems to have done the trick.

Can't understand why I haven't previously encountered the problem.

Never mind, you live and learn with these things don't you.
